Do you or someone you know have trouble getting good sleep? Insomnia is when one has trouble falling asleep or staying asleep for extended periods of time.

Insomnia is much more common than you'd think. According to "The Good Body,"

  • Approximately one in four Americans develop insomnia each year
  • About 30% of American adults have symptoms of insomnia

As significant as quality sleep is, it's clearly not something that everyone is getting-even though our bodies require it to be healthy. Sleep is essential for numerous aspects of a healthy body. Immune health, stable metabolism, and a clear mental state are just a few of the benefits of providing your body with enough rest.

Even if one allows the time for it, sometimes sleep is just easier said than done. Did you ever think CBD might be able to relieve you from insomnia or restlessness?

In a study performed by the US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health, it was found that CBD increased sleep duration. There was a large case series performed to test the relationship between cannabidiol and anxiety & sleep. Scoring for subjects was based on the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, which is a self sleep report with a one month duration. Some of the criteria were sleep quality, time taken falling asleep, and sleep duration among others. Results from the subjects found that overall sleep scores improved rapidly.

CBD has worked for many as an alternative to traditional sleep aids like ambien and klonopin- all without any of the negative side effects commonly associated to these pharmaceuticals.

Michael Breus, PhD, wrote a highly informational article with Huff Post titled "The Ultimate Guide to CBD and Sleep." In it, he outlines the relationships and potential impacts CBD has been shown to have with a variety of different ailments. He stated that "CBD has the ability to reduce anxiety, which can be helpful in reducing sleep difficulties and improving sleep quality. CBD may increase overall sleep amounts, and improve insomnia, according to research. CBD has been shown to reduce insomnia in people who suffer from chronic pain" (Breus 2017).

CBD has been shown to help many with insomnia and sleep issues. It can help with falling asleep, staying asleep, and sleeping longer. Sleep contributes significantly to a healthy body, and CBD may be able to make a difference to your sleep health!
